Hey Gang
What is considered a Harley high performance engine?
Is the 96 cubic inch considered high performance?

Not hardly. More of an attempt at performance bogged down by emissions. Thank god for the aftermarket. A 103.107.113.117.124 those are performance engines..

Depends, to some it is depending on what they had before the 96.

In my opinion the 96 is not bogged down by emissions, it has a pair of heads that do not breath well enough for the cubes, not emissions related.

From a high performance viewpoint, in the automotive engine world, I give the EPAand CARB muchof the credit for getting their engineers away from carburators to computerized engine management systems that has provided us with some of the highest performance engines from the factory that we have ever seen. An example is atodays factory Corvette producing over 500 SAE net flywheel HP (real HP)that gives wellover 20 MPG on the highwayand meetstodays pollution standards.Wonder if theystill would be carburated without them. I know, I know, if we still had carbsI could still ficx em.

Take your Stock 96 and Open up intake and exhaust. Flow the heads and put a nice cam in and then you be close to a HP Motor.

More like a low performance engine. When I get done with them they put out anywhere from 1.05 to 1.15 H&T per cubic inch, cool down 30-50 degrees and start and rev much quicker. In stock form they don't even put out 1 H&T per inch.

I really wouldn't consider any of the factory air cooled HD engines "high performance."

any cubic inch motor with performance upgrades can be a performance motor...anything beyond stock.
