Default Carb STILL leaking! Help!

I have an '89 FLSTC and the carb was leaking from the overflow hose. So I took it apart, cleaned it,& rebuilt it, put it back together---IT'S STILL LEAKING!! I got all the dirt out of the carb.Any other ideas what it could be? Could it be the float?? If so, how do I check it?
Thanks for the help!
Sid

Hi, A few years back I battled the leaky carb. Did all the cleaning and replaced the float and needle. Found the problem to be the fuel tank emissions hose folded. The tank would pressurize enought to force fuel out the overflow hose. You can tell after riding or when tank heats up, crack the gas cap, you will hear the pressure escaping. The hose is under the fuel tank. Good luck....Marty

Does it leak when the engine is cold?If so, I would rule out the the gas tank pressure idea in the above reply.
One way to check the float(needle & seat)is to remove the float bowl with the carb still on the bike.Do this outside away from any sparks, water heater,etc-.Turn the fuel petcock off and remove the bowl. The float assy. should drop(hang down).Turn the fuel on and fuel will drain out.Lightly presss the float assy. up and the fuel should stop flowing.
If the fuel does not stop then the needle and seat is damaged or the float level is way out of spec..If the fuel does stop then the float level may be out of spec.
Refer to a service manual for the correct float level adjustment and spec..Normally you remove the carb and turn it upside down to check the float level. There should be a measurement from the base of the carb to the top of the float. The float level is adjusted by bending a metal tang on the float.
Not all brands of carbs are the same, the above will work with most Mikuni carbs and is basic info.
Your best bet is to get a FSM for more detailed info on your bike.

Hope this helps.
