My 40CV was jetted too rich by the previous owner, so I removed it and rejetted as per the HD Forum Tech with a#46 slow jet, #190 main, stock emulsion tube and a new slide, (not drilled out), stock needle with two washersand a James rebuild kit. It idles fine, but when I take off and increase the throttle it bogs down like it is starving for fuel. Does any one have any idea what might be causing this, I sure would appreciate any help.
The 46 jet is fine....after 1/4 throttle your not even on that circiut anymore. You said you changed the emulution tube, what did you install and what was in there before?(what did they look like) How thickare the washers you used under the needle?
Doc1, I installed a stock emulsion tube, the one that was in there did not have a hex head it was just round with a slot head, I used a stock needle with two .025" #4 washers.
OK so the tube you took out was a Dyno Jet kit tube,(it had two small holes in the side)you replaced it with a stock tube with several holes in the side. The needle you still have in the the carb, does it have a clip with 6 grooves in it or a solid needle with a thick blunt end at the top?
There is a small silver cup that sits on top of the tube (needle jet) inside the carb....one side of this jet has a larger cup like bowl and the other side looks like the needle just fits in it....the CUP side should be facing up in the throat of the carb and the small side down sitting on the emulsion tube, (the tube keeps it in tack)....if this jet is in back wards the bike will not take any throttle, look in the throat of the carb (lift up the slide) and look at the jet, again the cup side should be visible if not turn the jet over.
Remove the washers from the needle if it isn't an adjustable needle with a clip...if it is an adjustable needle you need to replace it with a stock needle (with no washers)
