Default Spark plug heat

A wrench said to change spark plugs heat range to cooler to help reduce pinging when engine gets hot on an RK. Changed ranges and it seemed to help. It didn't cure it but made a noticeable difference. My question is what happened? Does the heat range make it feel richer, leaner, etc.? What is the difference in the two plugs, type of metal used in electrode, or what?[sm=dontgetit.gif]

Increases in firing-end temperature are proportional to engine speed, load, or in the case of air cooled temperatire- thermal load. When traveling at a consistent high rate of speed, carrying/pushing very heavy loads, or operating air cooled engines with minimal cooling for extended periods- a colder heat range spark plug should be installed. It keeps the firing end temps down and help prevent pre-ignition,detonation or engine damage!

Look at the 2 plugs side-by-side. The colder plug will have less of its center electrode extending past the threaded portion.
