air cleaner replacement

The previous owner of my '95 wide glide obviously had limited mechanical skills. He stripped out the air cleaner mounting bolts,and the adapter to the carb. The backing plate is cracked from over tightening. I need to replace the whole assembly as well as the adapter to the carb. My questions are... how do I tell if my Mikuni HSR is a 42 or 45? Does it matter when buying the air cleaner assembly? What air cleaners work well with that carb? If it is entirely a matter of preference, what do you prefer and why?
Right now it is a screaming eagle set-up.
