I have an 07 streetglide. SE pro performer heads. 103 jugs. Forged 10:5.1 pistons S&S 585 gear driven cams. Arlen ness big sucker . K&N air filter. PCIII. I had the bike tuned by dynojet a week ago.

Heres the problem. My engine runs fine when its cold. Got power and torque. But when it gets hot, it feels like its bogging. When it gets hot outside like 89 to 92 the bike feels really boggy. I can be in 6th running and it sounds like its in a bind or something. the valves will rattle a little when i hit the throttle. I told the harley shop and they gave me no answer. Anyone know whats going on ???? Thanks for the help.

Oh yea. i usually run around 70 to 85. I think the engine is overheating, i just dont know why. I told the dynojet guy about it and he made a brand new map and it did run better for a little while but that was it.

 

I have a 103" '07 Street Bob with cams and headworkthat sounds similar to yours. Last week I had some "bogging". I took it to the dealer and they immediately tapped into the fuel line with a pressure gauge and told me I had a pin-hole leak somewhere in the gas line. Apparently this can cause the kind of intermittant bogging and hesitation I experienced as air bubbles come and go. It confirmed my suspicions it was some kind of fuel problem. My fix-up appointment isn't until the 21st of this month, but I'm sure they're right on the mark, because they went right to the root of the problem instantly and diagnosed it quantitatively. Maybe you have a simlilar problem? Maybe not, but you never know. JBD

I dont really think its a fuel issue cause when its cool or in the cool of the day, it runs ok. Some how some way i feel when it gets hot something is happening and i cant figuer out what. Gets fuel. When i roll on the throttle on the interstate it just boggs rather than going. Its like the engine is in a bogg or bind or something. I can feel the heat coming up off the engine. I cant run it hard for very long either, it will do the same thing. I had it remaped. they did a good job, they said it would stay cooler and run better and it did until it heated up again.

 

Had a similar problem with my brothers 2004 EG, the crank was bathing in excessive oil; fouond an "O" ring in the CAM Support plate was mising when reassembled by the dealer. They replaced the "O" ring and good-to-go!

 

Check for wet sumping.....
When you feel it start to bogg down get it home or to a dealer and have them drain the crank case into a measuring cup, let it drain for at least 15 min. into the cup......you shouldn't have over 6 to 8 oz if yo udo have 8 oz or above the crank case is filling up with oil and the flywheels are bogging down (like you trying to run in a pool)
If this is happening to your bike it would be an answer to your oil carry over problem too.

 

Check for clutch slipping.

 

Not the clutch. It doesnt slip. But i have had some overspray problems and they did have the oil pump go out and said the o ring was bad. This happens when it gets hot. The engine sounds like its in a bind for some reason. I can let it set or cool down or the outside temp can go down and it will stop. it usually happens when im running on the highway and for some reason it will load up and bogg. Sometimes it will run for hours ok then if i run it hard or over 75 it starts that crap. it sounds like im going up a tall hill.

 

This is a good one to wonder over. Where I used to work, called brainstorming. What could cause this?

I'm not saying its not getting but generally highway 70-80 MPH is not too hard on a Harley at least heatwise, lots of cooling going on. But there is a load on the engine could be fuel starvation?

How about fuel filter?

 

Im thinking close to that. When i give it the gas it boggs but you can hear the engine roar out so its got to be getting gas. Im going to run the bike pretty hard in a few and then check the crank for oil. I just checked it and it had about 8 ounces in it. Now im going to go run it and stop on the interstate and drain it and see what it is.

 

THE THINK IM WORRIED ABOT IS THIS. IM RUNNING 10:5.1 AND PREMIUM GAS. Im worried the top end is getting to hot and swelling up slowing the bike down. Iv had this bogging thing happen four or five times. Once when i was running the bike 90 plus . Again on a trip in the day with two up. During the ironbutt it did it a lot. I was running 85 to 95 plus for 17 hours. I noticed the hotter it got during the day, the hotter my engine got and bogged worse. When it cooled down. my bike stopped bogging. thats why i have the feeling its getting to hot. I never havi this problem in the evening or at night. Im wondering if the engine is getting enough wind to cool it off. I have these fins on the front of my bike to knock some of the wind off me but i never thought it would effect the engine or if it could effect it. I really dont see how when the ultra comes with a shroud around the front of the engine and it runs ok.
