On a recent oil change I noticed a fuel smell in my oil. \\;\\\\\\; My last two tanks I got 37 mpg, mix of city and highway riding. Am I running too rich? \\;\\\\\\; NO black smoke, no burning oil. \\; I took some short trips this winter which didn't get the bike up to operating temp, maybe there was unburned fuel in the cylinders that leaked into the crank case. I have changed oil since, but there was still about 1/2 quart of the old in the bike. \\; Any ideas? \\;
I assume your bike is carb....correct. I have a S&\\;\\\\\\;S on one of my bikes I thought the same thing about fuel in oil. Mine was the carb seems to hold a bit more fuel in the bowl and after the bike sat a bit evaporated fuel fumes leached over into the tank and gave off the odor of fuel in oil. Run the bike good get it heated up and then when you come back pull the stick and smell in the tank and see if you smell fuel.
 \\;\\\\\\;
If still worried change oil again and pull the oil line and drain out the last 1/2 quart. I can't remember the overflow set up on the stock carb. But ususally fuel will come out the overflow before going into the cylinders when sitting.

Actually it fuel injected. \\; Someone said that by taking short trips unburned fuel could leak by the pistons and contaminate the oil in the crank case, but was also told that oil will not negatively affect the viscosity of synthetic oil. \\; My mpg has only been about 37 my last two tanks.
