Default enrichener: good or bad

I have heard alot of pros & cons on using the enrichener. I have a 2001 Fat Boy. Harley says pull out enrichener, drive a mile, push half way in, drive a mile, then push all the way in. Some say use enrichener to start and then push all the way in and use throttle until the engine is warm. Which way is best for engine and spark plug life? Or does it matter?

To me, use the enricher as HD recomends.

I have a Mikuni 42 on my 05 dyna and Ive tuned the carbs jetting to alow the enricher to work a hd intended.

I go half a block with it out all the way, the i go half way for a coulpe of miles the just push it in all the way.

Ive done more damage to the plugs tuning in the jetting that the enricher ever could.

Personally, I fear forgetting about if it I try driving off with it out. I think running 100 miles with the enrichener is worse that waiting for it to warm up enough not to need it.

Why? The worst it could do is foul a plug. If you leave it on, you'll notice when it idles up to 2000 RPM at a stop light, or it doesn't slow down as quick as you expect when you let off the gas.

There's the old story about the woman who was getting lousy mileage in her car, but had a great place to hang her purse when she pulled that **** out away from the dash...

Doesn't the enrichener mainly affect the low-speed fueling circuits?

actually it can wash the cylinders, too much fuel ie rich is not much better than too little Lean. I rarely use my enricher. If it is stone cold I pull it out long enogh to fire the bike up and then use my throttle screw to keep the rpms around 1200 rpm until the heads are warm and/or I just take it easy for 8 miles or so.
