I just picked up some new SE II slip-ons for my 06’ Deuce. I am attempting to install them myself. The show stopper I just came across is I’m having trouble getting the stock mufflers off the header. I have the heat shields and every other bolt and clamp removed. I just can’t break off the stock mufflers from that header pipe. Anyone have some tips N’ tricks that I should learn here?
Just keep wiggling, turning, pulling, and twisting they will come off. Just went through this yesterday when I installed Rinehart True Duals. It took me about 7hrs start to finish. I did not curse one time even when I spent a 1/2 hour tring to fish a nut from under neath the starter motor. DOH!!! Torque Wrench! I Don't need no stinking Torque wrench!
Sry gentleman, none of the above…
By placing a peace of wood right on the crossover piping and a rubber mallet, 5 min out of my day is all it became. And another 5 to fit the pipes and clamps and another 30min. screaming down the neighborhood streets just thinking, I know I’m annoying someone out there!!! HaHa Thnx for all ya’lls help
Spray with PB Blaster, loosen muffler clamps, soak joints with PB Blaster. eat lunch (or wait 15 minutes for soakage), remove saddle bags,
remove bolts from hanger brackets under saddle bags, place a block of 2x4 against the hanger bracket on muffler and beat with a large hammer
in a rearward swing to beat mufflers loose. If the mufflers have been on for a while it will be harder to remove them due to rust at joint! There is no need to loosen or remove any exhaust heat sheilds to replace the slip ons. Be patient they will come off.
