2005 Springer carb loading up problems
A friend of mine has a 05 springer which he said keeps loading up and missing on him. He will be at idle and it loads up and tries to quit. If he turns off the gas petcock and lets it run down it will stop loading up and start running right again. Seems like he told me it would do it at low rpms too while cruising but get the same results if he turned the gas petcock off and let the fuel burn.
Said he has checked the float and it appears to be fine. Someone has worked on the carb drilling out something and re-jeting it. I do not know what size jets he has in it at the moment. Bike smells very gassy running and fuel millage is at about 25mph I think he said.
Said he is ready to replace the carb with a S&S "no money" but I think he can resolve his root issue problem. Choke is not on and set right.
Thanks for any help on things to check..

It sounds way too rich. most jet kits especially when the drill out the slide are bad news. Tell him to set back to stock and if the slide is drilled he will need to replace it at about $40 a pop. If it is the air fuel cap that was drilled then it is no big deal unless the air fuel screw got over tighted and the seat damaged. this need to be lightly seated then backed out and if someone hamfisted it that could be his problem. if you can smell gas that is too rich.
