I have a 98 evo with Samson street sweepers with torque cones 2 1/4". A friend game me a brand new set of pipes. Same brand and style but 1 3/4" diameter pipe. Which would be better to run?
If they come without baffles the 1-3/4" OD pipes would work best. The 2-1/4" pipes would run like crap without baffles, not enough back pressure. If they come with baffles, I would go with the 2-1/4" pipe for deeper sound. You can't put much of a baffle in a 1-3/4" OD pipe.
I had 1-3/4", Samson II, Rip Saws, on my 2005 SE Fat Boy, with 103" engine. They come without baffles. The previous owner had them installed with power cones. This setup ran perfect on my bike. I just couldn't take the outrageous exhaust volume, so after putting up with them for 2-1/2 years, I switched to a Fat Cat, with quiet baffle.

Yeah both sets are just open pipes. No baffles. I told that my bike sounds good with the 2 1/4" pipes on now. I can't hear them when I'm riding. I'll switch them and se how it goes.
