Default HQ or Tman??

I'm looking at doing some motor work to my bike, possibly the 107 kit or a 103. Which do you think would be the better choice? Head Quaters 107 http://www.head-quarters.com/buildsh...ldfax107st.pdf
I thought the cylinders would be too thin though going to a 107?
or Tman's 107 kit Stage 3 Street Elite 107 " Kit $2480
http://www.tmanperformance.com/kits.htm

Kit includes:

Stage 3 Street Elite Heads

Wisco Custom made for TR Forged Pistons

Head, Base and Exhaust Gaskets

Millennium Nikasil cylinders for improved cooling and provides increased cubic inches without boring cases.

Your choice of cam (not pictured)

Note: Engine must have a 4 3/8" stoke to achieve 107"

I dont think you could go wrong either way.

i went with HQ just on the conversation I had with HQ. I felt very comfortable with the words I heard and the questions I was getting asked to tailor make my build.

I thinks this is what it boils down to.

HQ kinda gose more for the hot touring type of builds, if your wanting more of a dragster, they may not be your choice in builders.

You would do well to talk to HQ and TMAN about what you want based on your riding style. You already have their contact information. As for the cylinder thickness for the 107", there seem to be plenty of them running without problems.

Good luck with your research.

Both are good but I would go with TMAN.

Default R&R

Both are good but I go with R&R because they take out the core shift when they port the heads on their 5 axis cnc machines, hand porting doesn't address this.

All are good

having had three bikes with HQs motors on them 07 SG HQs 103--fast as hell off the line all the way up to 120+ 24,000 miles without one motor problem, 08 RG HQs 107 did not get a chance to test it--totaled the bike with less than 1000 miles on the motor--I had TBW (no way related to the motor build) issues with it by the time I got it worked out the bike had gone to hog heaven.

Now I have 09 RG with HQs 107 have not had a chance to fully test it; but I hit it hard after 100 miles front wheel off the ground--it is fast strong motor and no TBW issues.

The 09 RG has 112 miles on it as of today--I will continue to evaluate the motor as I go--Planning on a road trip to daytona in March.

Two of the Dealers in Atlanta take new bikes and put HQs motors in them and warranty all of thier work.

There are many good motor builds out there including SE; but for the dollars spent I think aftermarket will give you more for you $$$$.

check out them all out including Gmr, S&S all reliable depends on who you are comfortable with.

Call them; they will talk motor with you all day.

I can attest for the quality of HQs motors

My only concern with the 107 is they both advertise usiing Nikasil on the cylinders. The Nikasil is a liner, plain and simple. The cylinders are bored out far enough that there's no steel left. That's where the Nikasil comes in.

If ANY of that comes off, you have a problem. I'm pretty sure it was Sedeluxe here that had that type of cylinder. Some coating came off and ruined the bottom end. Maybe processes have improved, I don't know. I'd rather have steel and steel myself. So, I'd go Axtell myself if you have to have a 107. Just my opinion tho.

Best of luck in whatever you decide!

Right on, both of these guys are bad a$$. Any one of these two builds would be a great choice! Matter of fact, since you're narrowed to 2 good choices I wouldn't even look at any others, it might get ya all twisted up! Nice research.

My HQ107 uses stock barrels. Other than compression releases nobody knows by looking.

Ahh, there site used to advertise the Nikasil. Maybe they've stopped using them. Good to know.
