I have a new 06 Dyna. When riding and holding a higher RPM in 3rd or 4th gear for less than say 30 seconds, I have noticed a somewhat loud hollow metallic TICK..TICK...TICK , that seems to be coming from the front cylinder area. The sound is similar to a radiator heating up or metal cooling down. This sound goes away after an upshift. Any ideas or anyone with similar experiences? I'd appreciated it. Thanks
I've got the same sound under the same circumstances you describe.
Don't know what it is, but I guess its some kind of "natural" sound of the engine.
Now that you've described the same sound I'm even more shure.
I bet you hear it when you're maintining a constant speed and if you either apply more or less throttle.... it stops.
If so, it's valve train noise. It is common and it's OK. All of them do it. It's more pronounced on some bikes than others.
I've also been told that it seems to be more noticable when running Syn-3 oil in the crankcase. I changed from Syn-3 to AMSoil on my last change and it actually does seem to be less noisey than it was with Syn-3.
Thanks for the response! It does seem that this noise is as you both describe. It just seemed quite loud to me and not like it should be "normal". Ive ridden several previous year dynas (03 to 05's) that didnt make this noise, so I thought it was unusual. But yes, it does only occur while maintaing that certain RPM and when i increase or decrease throttle, it goes away, or when I ultimately shift to the next higher gear it goes away as well. I just wanted to make sure that it wasnt anything that was going to hurt
the motor. Thanks again to all who responded.
