I posted this in the Softail section last week, but I have not got many responses.
I picked up a 96 Fatboy a few months back. I have changed quite a bit cosmetically since the pic below was taken. The motor is mostly stock, but I have had a handful of guys recommend changing the carb and intake on the bike. I know the carb and air is stock.
Is there a benefit to swapping out the stock CV carb for a Mikuni? I want to go to a higher flowing air intake. Any recommendations?
What config would be the best as far as carb, jet, air filter setup etc?
There is nothing wrong with the OEM carb, the only thing that they need is a DYNO-JET kit this richens them up and will eliminate the cold blooded start, You won't need to ride five miles with the enrichiner pulled out to prevent stumbling.
Scooty is right, with a little help they can rock 'n roll. I have always run S&S on everything but I do have a Mikuni HSR 42 on one of my bikes now for the first time. I must say I do like it and was pleasently surprised with it's quick responce and performance!
