Default Bore size / Mahle Piston

I have an 1980 FXWG. I was told by the guy I got it from that it had been bored +.040. I had some problems with the front cylinder and took it off and seen that it has the stock numbers 16568-78. Now reading that some will hone original cyliners out to +.040. The piston is a Mahle and has the Harley logo on the inside and says 88L52. So can anyone tell me is this translates into the stock size, or I guess the stock number for the piston. I tried to measure the bore but don't have an actual mic and it measured almost exactly 3.5 inches.

piston to bore fit is extremely critical..... take it to a local machine shop and have them mike the bore and piston, then you don't have to guess what it is.
