Softail, self built custom. 107 ci TP engine, Mikuni 42 carb, Crane H-4 ignition, single fire, dual coil. I thought maybe I got some bad gas ( Premium ), put some gas treatment in over night. I drained some out, didnt see any water. Front plug is sooty, rear plug is paper-bag brown.
Runs great till it get hot, then quits. Sometimes, acts like it's running out of gas...sometimes
a miss or small "pop" just before it quits. Sometimes it will start back up, run for a minute, then quit...then cant get it to fire up again. Leave it sit and cool down, starts right up, runs great till it gets hot, dies.
Any help on this is appreciated...wasting the summer!
Thanks!
By gets hot, I just mean riding long enough to reach operating temps...about 15-20 minutes.
What do you mean by ignition? The Crane module or the ignition ( key switch ). I forgot to mention that I had done several rides for several hours at a time, no problem. Then the bike sat for a couple weeks, waiting for parts, and install. Now, I did put in another ignition unit ( the spring loaded key ign switch, thats when the problem started.
Bad ignition switch? The crane unit is fairly new, low miles on it.
Thanks

The Crane unit.
I bet we sent 30-35 of those back for warranty prior to Crane going out of business.
I'd reccomend a Dyna 2000i module in it's place.
BUT, before you spend money on that, blast that unit with a hair dryer to replicate the heat it experiences, or try riding it with the cover off it, so it can be exposed to better cooling, and witness the symptoms.
As I said, it certainly sounds like it is getting ready to take a dump.

Great, Crane is out of business? My unit is less than a year old, I did not ride all last summer, so it only has a few hours on it. Could it be coils...although I put in a new set about a year ago. and again, I did not ride all last year.
Thanks,
