Default Compression/ Kuryakyn

Looking to build a 95" motor for my RK. What would you say is a streetable CR? When do you need to use releases? Has anyone had any success with Kuryakn Wild Things kits? Their website boast of some impressive numbers.

I wouldn't build anything over 10.5 to 1 for the street. Between the longevity that is lost for the motor and the inability to find any gas over 93 octane at the pump. As for compression releases I think it is safe to say 10.1 or 10.2 and higher I would have heads machined for compression releases. Even if you don't have to use them all the time, the $200 you spend to have the machine work done and the price for the releases. It is still cheaper than going to buy new starter at over $400. I have not had any dealings with the Wild Things line of motor parts by Kuryakyn. They boast some pretty big numbers for there all inclusive matched parts though.

Static compression isn't as important as dynamic compression (cylinder pressure). You have to facter in bore, stroke, static compression, cam timing, and atmospheric pressure/altitude. You want to keep the pressure around 190'ish for a good comprimise between power and reliability. Stock pressure is about 169.

I have a 10.25 static compression, 95". I used SE204 cams, with the same valve closing point as stock. At sea level, cylinder pressure would be a little high at 202. But I live at 6,400' ASL; my cylinder pressure is about 168. It runs great on cheap low octane fuel. Peak torque is 94@3,600rpm's. I conidered going to a static compression of 11.5. But if I head east about 500 miles, the altitude drops quite a bit, and I'd have a hard time controlling detonation.
