Default HSR 42 Poor Fuel Economy

Okay so heres the dueal. I just recently put a new mikuni hsr 42 on my 05 dyna superglide sport. I run an 88 CI engine and have v&H big radius pipes, I also have a stage 1 ignition kit in there as well. The problem Im having is Im only gettting like 31-33 MPG. Which is horrible! And thats if Im lucky. the carb is currently set at its stock setting of 25 pilot, 165 main, and the stock jet needle that it comes with. My question is what jet configuration should I be running on my 88 CI? Anything would help out guys. I appreciate it.

The 25 pilot jet is usually too rich, try a 20 or even a 17.5.
The standard accel pump nozzle is a 70, try a 50.
Stock needle is a 97, try a 98 (leaner) with clip in the middle.
Stock main jet is a 160, most folks use a 165.
You should be able to pick up at least 10 mpg.

Those pipes could be "over exhausting," and causing you to pull on the loudstick harder that you would have to, with a different pipe.
Generally those slide carbs show good mpg.

A good choice of carb, but IMHO setting carbs up is a black art. You can either spend time buying and fitting different parts and possibly getting it better, or visit a tuning shop who knows their Mikunis and will sort it out in a blink. Your call on sorting it soon, or sometime!

exactly, drop your pilot (17-20)- 98 needle (middle of clip) main could be right on at stock 160 but experiment I do use a 165...
