How to find out if I have adjustable pushrods and solid lifters?
Engine has some lifter noise which shouldn't be there with stock pushrods/lifters, because I cleaned engine with ATF.
I guess previous owner changed pushrods/lifters. 99 Ultra.
To answer your original question, just loosen one of the keepers on one of the push rods. Then, look and see if you have the adjustable rods. You will see two nuts and threads on the rod close to the bottom end of the rod..
I doubt that you have solid lifters but once you have verified that you have adjustable PRs, you can verify whether or not the lifters are solid or hydraulic. With the piston at TDC on the compression stroke, you should be able to rotate the PR between your fingers and there should be no lash. Extend the PR length a turn or two until you cannot rotate the PR between your fingers. This will open the valve; wait 10 minutes and try to rotate the PR between your fingers. If the lifters are solids, they will not bleed down and you will not be able to rotate the PR between your fingers. If the lifters are hydraulic, they will bleed down and you will be able to rotate the PR with your fingers again.
Thanks for responses.
I add 1 quart of ATF to oil and then run engine for 5 min. to clean. After that I change oil.
PRs are adjustable, now I'll check lifters like DJL said
I would also do what splitting lanes has suggested and change oil again and perhaps even a third time. A straight weight would be appropriate in this situation, at least until you get all the ATF out.
