Default How does this help with engine reliability?

Hey all gear heads
I had stated the following:
I am not so much interested in increasing speed and horse power. My big concern is engine Longevity. The bike I just got is an 02 FXD with 35,000 miles on it. I want it to last as long as possible and be dependable enough to ride across country. So I am looking at what should be done to prevent any breakdowns. Of course more speed and horsepower would be a plus.
And received this response from a shop:
with a mild upgrade, your rideability & reliability wil be better than stock. 9.4-1 95" kit,and a S&S .510G or .570G will get rid of your cam chains & tensioners (a VERY big weak link in twin cam motors)give me a call

So… My question is, is "9.4-1 95" kit" just a big bore kit? If so how will that aid in reliability horsepower yes but reliability?
And .510 or .570 are cams correct? If so how will that aid in reliability? I understand how switching to gear drive in place of chains and tensioner can help, but is it necessary to change cams in order to switch to gears?
I am no bike mechanic. And don't really understand this stuff that well. But it does not sound like these upgrades would help as far as longevity. It sounds like it will add horsepower but that is not what I am after. I want dependability. Can anyone explain if these upgrades will help with what I am looking for and how? Oh and how much should I expect to pay for the upgrades mentioned?
Thanks guys.

The quote you got is just basically a big bore and cams. The increase in reliability is due to the elimination of the cam chain tensioners and nothing else.

Yep, what Dalton said. In addition to that, the recommendation would give you a bump in HP and torque and it shouldn't decrease the longevity of the motor. Many big bores out there running for miles and miles if they are built well with good parts.

+1 on the cooler running engine especially on the TC 96ci. That is one fact alot of people dont know. Its all in the cams. More overlap and valves staying open longer let more hot gas escape which in turn lets it run cooler. That and the fact that to pass emissions H-D sets up the A/F ratio on the lean side which causes it to run hotter which is fixed with a fuel management.

I have personally worked on a guys bike who has over 300k miles on a set of gear driven S+S cams. Ive rebuilt his top end twice and had a Harley Reman. engine swapped out after 300k. All with putting the S+S cams back in after each rebuild. You should expect on average to get about 100-120k on a TC engine with the exception of the stock cam chain tensioners.

Thanks guys. That makes sense. How much should I expect to pay for the big bore kit, better cams, and gear kit installed?

Go here to get an idea of basic parts costs:

You may need to factor into the price a decent exhaust, air intake and tuner and misc. parts , clamps, oils, etc. Labor should be about 10 hrs plus tuning.
