Default 131 engine

Im not doing it(would love too) but have always wondered what it take to build one and how much for parts. Im assuming that you would use stock cases bored out and aftermarket jugs?. So if anyone want to chime in just to satisfy my curisority that would be great.
Thanks as usual

Easy enough to do with a 4.675 crank and 4.250 bore, only thing that starts to become an issue is the amount of stock left at the top of the cases after boring to that dimension. Not a lot of gasket surface and could be prone easily to cyl base leaks.

I am guessing cost to be in the $5-6k range if you do it yourself, more if you pay someone to build and more yet if you need exhaust, tuner, clutch, etc.

Have at it and let us know how it turns out !!!

Not only is the loss of base gasket surface an issue, but so isn't the possibilty of the cylinder studs pulling out.

we`ve done alot of 124"ers with stock cases,no probs with leaks or studs.the studs wouldnt be an issue with the size, more with compresion(or if someone over torques the head bolts, which would be the same on an 88"er)

there are a lot of draw backs then a few that were mentioned. also stud spacing , leaking base and cylinders ,plus there is also reliability problems. if doing a big cubic inch motor like Jims or market such as S&S for cases. jims has twin cam cases also you will need to watch what frame ya put it into also.

i bought a jims 131 and put itin my street glide....runs like a champ. Converting a smaller motor into a 131 ends up being the same money--if not more.

Converting a 124" to 131" coming in this week.
Client is also considering a 35-50 hp hit of NOS.
I REALLY, don't not think that will be needed.

My Hillside 124 was a F'N MONSTER and i loved it--it made more power than my Jims 131 is currently making......but i sold the 08' and stepped into an new 2010 chassis and put the jims 131 in........Hillside is going to tweek my 131 after the factory warranty ends.....i will then be looking forward to MONSTER PULLING POWER!!
