Iron 883 conversion
Initially I am just going to fit V&H short shots, heavy breather filter and power commander but I intend to get it converted to 1200cc and fit gas-flowed heads/racey cams etc.
I would appreciate any constructive advice regarding performance mods to a 1200 conversion. Thanks in advance.
It is also worth pointing out that most discussion here on tuning actually takes place in the Sportster forum, where you will probably pick up more than in here. The forum is well structured, but the users ain't!
If you plan to have your own heads gas-flowed you will obviously need access to a suitable tuner. If you know one my advice is to make friends with him and consult on all the other things. There are Harley owners who do everything themselves, mixing and trying to match parts from all over, while some tuners know their Harleys and can offer a well-tried recipe. That is the shortest route to a successful result!
Having owned Harleys since the 70s and seen the majority of modified ones running less than pefectly I now use specialists who know their way around. Better results first time and skilled backup if needed.
If it is and Ironhead, then a 4 5/8" stroker kit is the way on those, along with head mods, Andrews cams of several different flavors, DTT ignition,
S&S carb. Those are very quick set up like that.
IF, it is a 883, then bore to 1200, Andrews 8 cams, headwork, carb mods, or replacement, DTT ignition, 2/1 Supertrapp. Again very quick.

Super Cycles are S&S specialists and sound a good starting place

I've found reputable H-D tuner/engine builder (R and R cycles), albeit on the other side of the country (Queensland). I think I'll get all the cosmetic stuff done during the first 6 months and then go for the big-bore/mild cams/gas flowing along with remapping towards the end of the year, once I've amassed tons of advice from those in the the know!
Not too much in the way of snow here in Perth Graham, I'm more concerned about getting boiled alive in leathers (bikers in shorts and flip-flops are a common sight here, unfortunately)
I'll check out the Sportster forum.
Best of luck with the bike.
