I decided on SE heads, SE forged 10.5-1 pistons, SE-57 cam, should make 95hp according to Screamin Eagle. Thanks for all the input. Special thanks to "Firetender" for the hook ups - saved me over $400.00 on parts!
post it when your done & dyno`ed,but i dont think you`ll see anyware near 95 hp(SE heads with no work wont flow enough)
I choose the SE heads because of the price and shipping my stock heads would have ran me a bundle and costed more. What other cam recommendations for the SE heads/pistons setup, Woods 9 or ev51 ?I could just resale the SE-57 and EV-27. What would be the better choice? I have a ev 27 with 40 miles on it but I would think its too small for this set up? 10 more horse with porting ? I cant see paying $600.00 to port the SE heads for 10hp/10 ft lbs more torque. Especially with my broke ***, unemployed and just recovering from a broken femur. HD claims some high #s with the un ported SE heads/hi comp pistons/SE-57 cam. Being fairly new to wrenching on Harleys and no bud's with built evo 80ci's make it tough to choose on what package to go with, especially when one builders numbers or claims conflict with anothers. Like the nightrider.com website, Cyclerama got 95 hp/95tq with SE-57 cam, stock unported heads w/5 angle valve job, 10.5-1 comp. with the dyno run graph to prove it, why would they post that up if its B.S. ? If cyclerama is pulling that out of stock heads, then I would think unmassaged SE heads could pull 95 hp. Depending on cost maybe I will send out the SE heads if its worth "more" than an additional 10hp. I definitely dont want to pull this engine back apart once its broken in, so different cam and possible porting if the price is reasonable would possibly be in the cards. I just may have to come up with a little more cash. I need built, broken in and dialed before the Redwood Run in June. I am open to any experienced suggestions and all are appreciated.. Thanks.
Hmmm, after finding the Bob Woods website, it looks like the WS6H or W8 cam would have been thebetter choice over the SE57 cam... problem is the SE heads will accomadate up .580 lift cam, WS6h or W8 cams are .590 lift. Would a valve spring kit take care of this issue and would the SE piston valve reliefs clear the SE valves with the Woods cam? The more research I do the more my wallet seems to shrink..
A Wood 8 will run those 80" Evo's well over 90/90.
Just dynoed one we did that the client assembled at home, in Lyons Falls N.Y., it went 98 hp 97 ft/lbs SAE, with 3.37 gearing in his FXR.

Yes the Wood 8 cam works VERY well in an 80"er, and have used that cam for almost 15 years.
A Crane 1101 spring will work fine, unless those S/E heads will accept .600 lift.

dont let "what the head will accept"determine what cam or heads your going to use, getting any head to accept any cam is not a big deal(within reason!!)

I ran that same combo on a 96 Fat Boy for years. It was a good set up. With one exception, and this has been pointed out, it is a mid to upper range power build up. Two changes made it better. First, I switched to the Andrews EV-72 cam. All I can say is that I would have been much happier with that cam over the 57 from the git-go. Secondly, had 29 tooth pulley installed to change the gearing. That pulley was the the icing on the cake. I still have a friend running that set up with SE57. He has gone through a couple of starters (no compression releases). I told him to swap the cam out for the 72. I never had a problem with the starter. As an FYI, it won't make 95 at the rearwheel. If i remember, mine dyno'd right 80-82 at the rear wheel. Never had it dyno'd with the 72. The bike just ran better throughout the entire range. You will enjoy it. But, there are better cams out there for that build. My comment about the 57 is that it was like a "light switch". On or off.
