Hydraulic Cams

I know this is a dead issue, but my 2003 FLHRCI has 40K on it. During a recent service, the tech said I was 500 miles from grenading the engine. The tensioners were at (almost) bare metal. I had no idea. The bike is meticulously maintained and is mostly highway miles. I can't afford gear driven cams, so I went with the SE hydraulic kit. We'll see.

You done good. The new type hydraulic tensioners are far better then the old type.

From what I've been reading on these forums the chain gets polished on the first set and the second set will last longer.

Have witnessed the same, and one hydralic set-up that is even better that the S/E, is the Bob Wood units as they are roller link chains on BOTH sides.
Same set-up we are currently using/installing for the American Iron Magazine, 2004 Softail, 98" build.
