Thunderheader
Just wondering, been told the quality of the Thunderheader has been not the best. Anybody have any comments on this? It's the only 2 into 1 system I really like.
Thanks

The overall quality it great, IMO when you take it out of the box you can feel the workmanship quality. I installed one, IMO the header portion of the pipes gets disclolored fast but its not that bad, and the heat shields are over that part anyway.

I bought a new one of Ebay about 4 or 5 years ago. When i opened the box the inside of the header was full of rust! I think it got caught in a flood or something and I didnt think it had anything to do with a production issuse.
The Tunderheader had the best torque if the three 2 to 1s ive run. 2nd best was the D&D fatcat (which im currently running) and light-years better than the Rineharts.
have you looked at RD racing?

Here in Hawaii the blacked out Thunderheaders rust pretty quickly. Everyone who has them loves them and just lives with the rust. But then, I have Hooker Troublemakers, also black, and they rust just as bad. When mine are worn out I'm getting Thunderheaders too. They have an awesome sound and good low end performance for a reasonable price.
Rich Products Thunderheader, has always been a very good pipe.
They have a "spot" at about 2300 rpms that some EFI tuners say is tough to get perfect. Other than that, no fitment issues, or inherent quality issues that we have witnessed over the years.
As long as we are discussing 2/1 systems, I will make mention of the White Bros. E Pipe. How I wish they were still manufactured.
THAT, was the BEST pipe ever manufactured, for these bikes. Much more torque in the middle over and above the T/headers, or D&D's, and hp was side/side, and the adjustable disc system allow folks on a dyno to really lay a killer tune on a given combination.
D&D's do have a reputaion of striking torque quickly.

I ran the Thunderheader on my previous bikes and never had an issue. I recently switched to the D&D. The fit and finish seems better, but it's just lacking the sound that I was used to. The D&D is very raspy/tinny sounded compared to the deep sound of the thunderheader.
I might just be going back to thunderheader land soon........
