My 1995 fatboy started running really rough after my return from Sturgis. A friend said i should have gone up 1 jet size while at Sturgis and I may a burnt valve from bike running to rich while in Sturgis. Help, Any suggestions?
Yeah, get a new friend. If you live below Sturgis and the mountains found there (elevation wise) as most of us do, your carbureted bile will run richer in Sturgis because the air is thinner but your jets deliver the same fuel as for when you were at a lower elevation with more dense air.
Now, follow the rest. If he said you needed to richen it up by going up a jet size, and that you ran too rich is Sturgis, he wouold have had you way overjetted and way too rich. Have you pulled the plugs yet? If anything running too rich won't burn a valve (too lean can) but too rich will foul a plug.
Also, did you sit on main street until your bike was so hot that blue smoke came out the exhaust? It would be a good time to check your intake seals.
