I HAVE A 1978 LOWRIDER FXS
I JUST BOUGHT IT TWO WEEKS AGO
THE GET UP AND IDLE HAVE BEEN ALL MESSED UP
I TRIED TUNING IT FROM THE ADVICE ON THIS FORUM AND IT WILL WORK FOR A DAY
THE NEXT DAY THE SAME THING
IT SPITTS AND JERKS LIKE ITS GETTING TOO MUCH GAS OR NOT ENOUGH
AND YESTERDAY IT RAN PERFECT BETTER THAN WHEN I GOT IT
THE NEXT DAY BACK TO THE SAME SPITT AND JERK
IVE CHECKED FOR EXAUST LEAKS AND OTHER THINGS FROM THIS FOURM AND NOTHING
I LOOKED INSIDE THE CARB WHILE IT WAS RUNNING AND WHEN I TRIED TO REV IT UP
I SEE GAS SPITTING OUT THE ACC PUMP BUT IT TAKES A SEC TO HAPPEN IF I SLAM THE GAS TO IT IT CHOKES OUT
I TRIED TO AJUST IT BUT THE SAME THING
TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT I NEED ADVICE IS IT TRASH OR DO I JUST NEED TO REBUILD
THE CARB.
ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED AS I HAVE NEVER OWNED A HARLEY BEFORE
I DONT KNOW WHAT SIZE THE JETS ARE BUT LIKE I SAID IT RAN GREAT SOME DAYS AND OTHERS NOT
NOW ITS ALL THE TIME
Maybe the float isn't adjusted properly or there is a worn needle and seat assembly that floods the bike. Try starting and running the bike with the petcock shut off and see how it runs before it quits. I would spend the bucks for a rebuild kit before I trash can it.........
Maybe the ignition is giving you fits like a worn spark plug boot that lets the spark jump out to ground. Those dumb chrome spark plug covers that people put on are famous for causing a spark jump......
IM SORRY I MEANT TO SAY IS IT TRASH IN THE CARB OR DO I NEED TO REBUILD IT
I CHECKED THE IGNITION WIRES BUT NOTHING
COULD IT BE THE COIL PACK?
IT WAS A POINT SYSTEM BUT THE LAST OWNER CONVERTED IT TO ELECTRONIC
