Default HOT engine

I've had my first Harley, a Night Train for 6 months now and I'm still getting used to the heat put out by the 88 twin cam. I'm riding more and more in stop and go traffic and concered about the heat generated sitting in traffic. I know these engines are tough but, just how long can they sit without air circulating throught the fins? Has there ever been a test done that anyone knows of, as to just how much it can take with out siezing??
PS I just went to synthetic 20w-50 oil.

Welcome. Harley has what is called "heat management" You can do a search here on the forum for a thread in the tech section that will explain it

Your bike will shut itself down before it would ever siez up. Its a good thing to know about your heat management.

You don't say how many miles you have on the bike, but as it breaks in more, you'll find it will generate less heat. Switching to synthetic is also a good choice. I'm also a very big proponent of oil coolers; they'll lower engine temps by 20 degrees or more, and IMHO, are a good investment.
