Ive got a 98 fxdwg (40000kms) that had a problem of serious missing and chugging when it was cold. It would run good when it reached about 100° F (i have a gauge).
I then changed the plugs (they were HD plugs- not old at all) and put ngk iridium plugs in and then it ran great! This lasted about 2 months. I now have the same problem again. I'm going to change the plugs tonight and test in the morning.
Does this sound common? Do i need to change my plugs every 2 months (dont think so!). Has this happened to any one out there? What else could it be?
Thanks!
May be a little lean, either due to a small leak somewhere, or the carb is not set up to run with any mods the bike has. Have you tried adjusting the idle mixture screw? It is normally under a blanking plug under the carb. If that blank is still there, carefully winkle it out and adjust half a turn out.
So I changed the plugs and put new ngk iridium plugs in and adjusted the idle mixture screw back a half turn last night. Took it to work this morning and it ran beautifully. I'll still have to check the plugs and see what color i've got. I also up'd the idle just a touch.
Still curious if anyone else has had this little issue.
