Just stumbled on this through google. Could you quickly touch on how you painted these pipes and what you used? Also, do the tips come off easily without messing up the wrap underneath? Thanks for any help!

I used newspaper & masking tape to mask off the pipes & painted them with DEI Hi-Temp silicone Coating (black) Part no. 010301. Put on 3 or 4 light coats then rode it a few times & touched up spots as needed before replacing the tips. the tips are held on with 2 small allen set screws on each pipe. the screws are located on the bottom & the back side of the tip. I had to cut down the allen wrench to get at the bottom screw of the top pipe. I've had them on & off several times without any problems with the wrap.
