after riding awhile in 90 degree , engine will start missing intermitten between 2000 and 2500 rpm. change engine temp sensor, i was told it might be leaning out and to install a power commander, which did not help the problem, but engine reponse is crisper. any ideas???
bike is bone stock no mod of any kind. pc has a stock map loaded. could it be possible to get vapor lock with the gas line runningd between the cylinder?
Vapor lock would shut er down. Change the plug wires like TC said, since you have the PC get a base line dyno run and see if the AFR is correct in all the rpms ranges, if not you can get a custom map, but since you're stock usually the base maps are o-k. Make sure your oil levels are good, you could have gotten some bad fuel or have a little water, also I like to run a little injector/fuel cleaner about every 5 or 6 tanks of gas. One other thing check the battery connections, sometimes the fuel pump can lose power intermittently if you have slightly loose or loose connections at certain rpm vibrations. Does the bike run o-k at all other rpms in the hotter weather and are you getting any codes? Just a few thoughts.
oky guy's. i replace the plugs and wire with screamin' eagle ones. boy i thought we had it , when for a couple hundred mile ride ran oky then the temp was around 85 and it started again but not as bad about 70%better, before it was started trying to stall at idle(it was around 95drg.) just a thought 'could a sensor be failing under both heat and vibration(harmonic)? it seem to miss at 2000 to 2400 rpm. no lower,no higher.i ran ecm codes none came up!! tested the tps (like you do on cars) for a flat spot and nothing. this one as stump me
thanks
You didn't happen to have a good look at the coil did you? On some of the older HD's (showing age now, lol) the coil would overheat. One of two results normally followed, either it would die, or you simply wouldn't be able to start it after you shut it down, well at least until it cooled. Since its only in one range I'd suspect either the coiils going, its cracked, or you have a wire grounding. Just some things to look at, but I sure do hate troubleshooting intermit problems via the net...... Good luck and keep us posted...
