I have a 2011 Street Glide 103. I have been on three long trips this year since Memorial Day Weekend this year and everytime I stop along the way the right side of my exhaust pipes saddlebags and seat is covered in oil. It looks like it is coming from the bottom of the jugs or the push rods.
I have carried it to the local HD store and the first time they said a oil filter gasket failed but there was no oil on the oil filter. The second time they said the shop I just had it serviced at put too much oil in it and was blowing back through the breather. The third time we just came back from Daytona and I carried it right to the HD shop. They told me that they were having trouble with touring models having a nut that backs out when the oil filter is taken off to be serviced and if you didn't know it did it, it would leak oil. I told them it only happens at interstate speeds on rides longer that 2 1/2 hrs.
Have any of you heard of this?
My bike is still under warranty and my riding buddies carry there touring models to other shops other than HD and they have never experienced this.

I just changed the oil and filter at 5k miles and developed a leak. It wouldn't leak for a trip or two and then it would leak a few drops, then stop for a trip or two and then leak again. Traced it down to the oil filter. Took it off, cleaned it and cleaned the bottom of the bike and cranked it up and it is still leaking from the filter area. I took it off again and the top of the filter ring that seats to the engine is good but when rubbing my finger around the ring, it feels like there is a high spot on the filter itself under the rubber o-ring. I think I have a defective filter. And yes I did all the normal stuff, cleaning the part where the filter goes with brake parts cleaner, oiling the top o-ring on the filter, tightening hand tight then turning an extra half turn and later 3/4 turn and still later a full turn. It still leaks. I wil replace the filter and try that. Good luck on yours, I hope it's something simple.

We run straight weight dino oil about 3/4's of a quart low on the stick to eliminate this most of the time. We also divert the head breathers to atmosphere as to not fill up the air filter and the intake charge with oil.
