I just picked up a V-Rod Special yesterday that already has Thunderheader exhaust with the heat shields installed. I noticed that there are some areas of rust on the shields and I was wondering if it's advisable to pull them, sand them and re-coat them? Would there be any problems with using a Krylon Satin finish BBQ Pit paint?
Just an update to anyone interested. I finally got around to pulling the heat shields off and cleaning them up a bit. So far so good with the BBQ pit paint, but I think that they look night and day better.

And here's an after picture after sanding applying Rustoleum Matte Black BBQ paint (1200 degree paint from Wal Mart). There's one spot that I had just touched up that hadn't dried on the end shield....
