I want to change to a 2 into 1 exhaust for my Deluxe and was looking at the Samson Caliber. Does anyone on here run these and can share their likes or dislikes? This is about the only 2-1 that I like the looks of. I haven't heard them but I'm told they are loud and deep in tone.
Never heard of them.....
You've got a nice looking Deluxe though, ever thought about the 2-1 Thunderheader or the 2-1 D&D ? Either one would look great on your Deluxe.
At Sturgis, Maiko Saravia the drag racer/dyno tuner told us in his experience the 2 into 1's were the best style of pipe to run. He also said the Calibers and Thunderheaders pulled the best numbers. He dyno tuned a bike in our group and gained about 17%more HP and torque.
I considered the D&D at first but kept hearing that there were clearance issues with the Deluxe. I heard one the other day on a Heritage and it sounded awesome, but it did look kind of low on the frame.
I have a Fatcat on my FLHT. Was going to put a 2/1 Caliber pipe on, but they were on backorder at the time, so I went with the Fatcat. The Fatcat is a great pipe and I was not disappointed. I had the D&D2/1 Excellerator pipe on it and was having some major fitmentissues. The Excellerator looked good and sounded good, but the Fatcat out performs it.I have seen the Caliber 2/1 since and it is a good looking and soundingexhaust. If I ever need to replace the Fatcat, then I will probably try the Caliber 2/1 exhaust. It is the only other pipe I would even consider. So if you like the looks of the Caliber exhaust, go with it.
Finally installed the Caliber 2 into 1 on my Deluxe. Install was easy and the quality of the pipes are excellent. Initial seat of the pants impression is WOW! My bike feels like it has just woke up. It comes with two different size baffles and I put in the smaller of the two which was recommended by Samson. They are on the quiet side but they can bark when you open them up. The sound is low and deep. I wish they were a little louder at idle so I'll try to do some kind of mod to the baffles. But I am happy with them so far and together with my Mikuni 45 and SE ignition my buddy can barely keep up on his Fatboy.
