am going to put new stamped breathers on ,going to check rocker side play ,can you just trim top and bottom of rockers boxes or do you have to clay them ,any pictures on where to trim,thanks
Shimming rockers is a waste of time unless you do it right and then it probably won't make any difference. If you are going to shim, you should trim the thrust side of the rocker shaft so that a .100" SS shim will set the clearance at .003"-.005". Remember to shim to the thrust side; shim goes on the pushrod end for exhaust and valve end for intakes. However, many have gone to the trouble all for naught.
Rocker side play has nothing to do with rocker box clearance. If you are referring to clearancing the rocker boxes for high lift cams and rocker arm contace with the webbing on the inside of the rocker box, clear as shown in the first two photos. If the beehive valve springs have been replaces with straight wound springs, you may need to clear per the bottom photo.
