Just thought I would throw this out there, these are the temp logs from my Thundermax for a 1 year period. During the year ambient temps were anywhere from 35 degrees to over 100 degrees. As you can see I rarely run over 300 degrees. I would imagine the 1 time it went over 310 was during a rather hot day last summer when I was stuck in traffic.
I will admit I was a bit surprised they were so low.

Way too much time wasted on watching cylinder head temp. It is what it is and unless a radiator or a set of oil cooled heads, not much you can do with all that information. I would be more concerned about keeping the oil cool but that's just me.

So I have a question about what all can have a negative impact on your temps. Recently I pulled the baffles out of my Screaming Eagle II slip-ons. It's been around 80* in my area for the past week and I ride daily. I have not really noticed a huge difference in temps but I want to make sure I am not putting my bike in harms way by having done this. I have not had a tune done on it as of yet and I plan on getting a closed loop auto tune system in the next few weeks.

I agree with smitty I don't see a whole lot of burned Harley's on the side of the rode.I too fall into the temp game. My 103 vance and hines ,arlen ness big sucker stage one runs oil temps at 230-245 . It has 1200 miles on it,head temp was 350 at plugs (and plugs look real good)seems hot but I'm not going to worry still runs fine. My old evo probably ran hot to but I never check and I put over 65k on it in the Florida heat.

I think the biggest thing that will affect head temps is going to be NOT running 14.7 AFR lean ... as the factory programs it ...

Adding fuel will cool the combustion chamber / head about as much as anything ...

I was mulling over what djl said above ... technically, it is true the heads are not 'oil cooled' ... however, oil flows through the rocker boxes which (as they are situated in direct contact with the heads) will act as something of a heat sink to draw heat from the heads ... if the oil flowing through the motor (and hence, the rocker boxes) is cooler by 10-20 degrees, I do not see why it would not have an ever-so-slightly favorable impact ...

However, big picture ... I think that once you've raised the compression ... the heads will run hotter and there is not a lot that can be done about it ...
