I have an 06 sportster with a S&S carb on it. lately it has been leaking gas out of the rubber overflow hose that connects to the carburetor. Not a big leak but noticeable when it's not running, as it doesn't leak while running. so the other day I decide to try to fix it myself... Or at least find the problem. directly under the carb is 3 screws, and I undid 2 of them. when I started to on screw the third one, gas just started pouring out, so I said forget it and put the screws back in and tightened it up. It's still leaking from there as we speak... It's not pouring out but still leaking and now I can't keep it running. I can get it started but when I do, starts pouring gas again, and dies pretty quick. So I don't know what the hell I did when I undid the screws. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Remove 3 screws and the gas thats in the bowl will come out. Its only an oz or 2. Pull off float and clean needle and seat. Your float is sticking - no big deal
thanks man I'll definitely take a look at that. I really know next to nothing about all this stuff obviously. if I can at least get the damn thing running again I'll be happy. Any idea as to why it won't stay running since I took out those, screws? Prior to that, it ran fine minus the overflow leak
There is trash under the needle and fuel is leaking past it.
After you remove the bowl and let the float hang down, you can disconnect the fuel line from the tank and blow through it to dislodge the trash. Again a container under it to catch the trash.
