I have a 1995 dyna superglide with 2" drag pipes, an andrews EV27 cam and ness big sucker air filter. No other upgrades. I am wondering if I can get any more bottom end to mid range power back if I install some baffles in my pipes? I can't fork out the coin for new pipes. Any info would help!
Yes, but the sound will change drastically. You won't like it.
You can drill a bolt hole through the back of the pipes and insert stacked washers. Or you can buy "Lollipops" which accomplish the same thing with better results.
I really don't think there is much you can do with drag pipes. They are essentially tuned length and work best in the higher rpm range. You would be better off IMHO keeping your eyes open for a 2-into-1 system, which will give you significantly improved low/mid range performance. Take a look in the classified ads here on HDF and Ebay, to see if something affordable and secondhand comes up?
Just did a little research online. Lollipops are inexpensive and have the potential to increase power without sacrificing alot of cash. Very cheap to make! If it doesn't seem to make enough difference for me, then I guess it's E-bay time.
If you still have the stock exhaust with he crossover, put that back on with some gutted slipons, it will still be very loud but get you some power back.

I think what Prodrag is telling you is don't waste even a cent on your current pipes!
Well, it seems that the drag pipes really are not for my application then. I love the sound, but I hate not having the performance. After riding it for a couple years and going on long trips, I think it's time to change them out. Can I get performance out of the stock headpipes and long pipes with baffles? I like the V&H Longshots, but cant afford them. They don't go for cheap on e-bay either. I keep an eye on craigslist, but no prevail. If I use my stock headpipes, I want to cut out and weld up the cross over pipe. Would this set-up work? I would use steel baffles with no packing. Just trying to save some cash. Owning a home aint cheap!
