Default fuel pump removal??

Help.....This is my first post, obviously i'm new. I have an 06 FXSTI. I'm going to have all my tins painted. Well after I removed my tank, I noticed written on the tanks (On what I assume to be the fuel pump) "CAUTION, * Module can break durring removal * See service manual for instructions". Well, Being the rocket scientist I am, I thought How hard can it be......I pulled the ten screws andlooked inside, and it looked kinda scary. Is this something I can pull off? Or should I just take it to the dealer? I'm real mechanical, but I don't have a manual. Can anyone walk me through this or am in over my head?? Thanks, KC

Snip the clammp that attaches the line inside the tank to the module assembly then carefully remove the line from the module. The line in the tank is permanantly attached to the bung that the external fuel line connects to. This simply unscrews from the bottom of the tank.

Assuming it is like a touring bike, its not that hard.

The fuel pump itself hangs down in the left side of the tank and is on a spring loaded hinge that will "snap" loose to allow you to pull the canopy (cover plate) & pump out as one piece. Also, there will be one hose going down to the external fuel line connection. There is a crimp clamp that you will have to cut in order to remove the hose from the pressure regulator.

Welcome to the forum!

Phil

Ok...That helps. Although the word "SNAPS" loose has got me. If I pull on it will it release or do I need to "unhook it from the spring"? No No manual one screamin
