tappets

doing cam work, 46000 on my fxdx. upgraded se plate hydraulic tensioners high flow oil pump and se 211 cams. I've gotten mixed feelings on this and know i'll get a few more but anyways, do I have to replace the tappets?

At 46000 miles I would absolutely change out the tappets, not because of the new cam but because of the mileage.

We would recommend tappet replacement as well. We like the S&S tappets over the Harley options.

at that milage its a toss up,but to be on the safe side,ide replace them too (we also use the S&S units)

You might as well since you can get to them easily. It is cheap insurance. I know I would. Did mine at 36K and replaced them.

BTW,if any shop tells you to change lifters JUST cause your installing cams,find another shop.we get asked this all the time ("do I need to change lifters when installing new cams"),the answer is NO,new cams installed in cars with flat tappets needed new lifters because they had to "seat" to the cam.HD`s use roller lifters and this rule dosnt apply
