It will take more then a few mods. You would do better buying the proper parts. I think this is the kit Scott was talking about.

I am going to build my motor hopefully in the next year as mine has 92K on it now and I am sure it will have over 100K before I do it. But I will be building a low end high torque motor as I am pulling a HD sidecar.

No case boring required to convert a 88"er to a 98"er; bore to 3.932" and fit new pistons.

Don't want to make that sale; the conversion will be a money pit. Your buyer would be much better off boring his 88"er, install cams and street port the heads. Run circles around the 96"er.

Just picked up a 98" kit from Scott at Hillside. It is there own kit. Not S&S. 9.8 CR. No, I am not having the heads done, YET. One thing at a time for this guy. Just waiting on a weekend with decent weather to do it. Scott is a great guy to deal with. Answered all my questions, didn't make me feel like a idiot (not hard to do), didn't try to sell me anything I didn't ask for.

I see it is the largest safe size bore to run with out boring the cases. On my first motor build since I have 92K on it and I pull a HD sidecar either going 96 inch 4 3/8 wheels or the 98 and keep stock 4 inch stroke. The stroke should help with better fuel mileage how do the big cylinders do as far as gas mileage. From experince I have found longer strokes give you better gas mileage do to the crank not have to turn over as much as a shorter stroke to go the same distance. The bore gives much better torque but in older motors like Shovel heads does not get as good a fuel mileage. What are others feelings about this?
Thanks
Jeff
