Quieting things down for a sidecar
I didnt know where to put this thread, here, in the tech section, or in the TRIKE/SIDECAR section... since its a universal problem, I flipped a coin and heads it is... so here is my story.
I just bought a 2000 Heritage that is gorgeous, with a 2000 Motorvation Spyder sidecar in Harley decor attached... it is an awesome ride.
But, the problem I have is that we bought it so that our 12 year old daughter can ride with us. The aftermarket exhaust (probably a VANCE & HINES, not sure) is angled with a baloney-cut elbow exhaust port, facing DIRECTLY to the sidecar rider... and with no baffles, this thing is LOUD.
I am tempted to try to locate something that will either deaden the sound to more acceptable levels (with some sort of baffling in them) or get the openings BEHIND THE BIKE, like FISHTAILS, etc, that come out in the back...
I just am not made of money, and the thought of spending $500 or more for a new OEM exhaust (or more?) is really tough for me to handle. So, what are some options you all can recommend to get the dBs down to a level that wont end up deafening my daughter by the time she's 18... (she's 12 now)...
Thanks. Suggestions (and maybe pictures) appreciated...
oh, PS - My local Craigslist happens to have a guy selling an OEM (original) exhaust setup for the same Heritage Softail Classic as I have... 1200 miles on them... BUT, when I emailed him an offer (he didnt name a price), of $100 he never even wrote back... They appear to be pretty blued-up on the chrome protectors, and not sure how much they actually muffle... Advice on that? What are used OEM pipes worth?
