Mikuni carb
This is for a good freind of mine who has had problems with the stock carb since the bike was new, he put a mikuni on it and it runs 10 times smoother but seems a little lean, and doesn't quite have the pulling power it did.
Any help would be great.

New Mikuni 42s come with a 25 pilot jet, 160 main & a ( I think ) -96 needle
Normally, its a decent set up to begin with
Mikunis have multiple adjustments for tuning, ... pilot & main jet sizes, needle sizes, needle position, fuel nozzle ( squirter), squirter pump adjustment, idle air screw... you get the idea
Mikunis can be a pain to get tweeked just right... but when dialed in, they will out perform almost all carbs.
Tips:
Make sure your throttle slide is opening all the way at full throttle
Replace your fuel bowl screws with allen heads, makes removing the back bowl screws much easier
Mikunis are prone to air leaks at the manifold junction
If you hear a noise .. clock, clock, clock at idle... thats slide rattle & is normal
You can replace the long black idle adjuster with one of thses ... http://www.fastaire.com/mikuni.html
Buy several sets of cheap Champ RN12YC plugs ( stock heads ) and do a plug check with new plugs
Take your time, make one small adjustment/change at a time & test ride it.
