Does anyone have any quick tips on installing/removing diffuser disks on Supertrapp slipons? I've got a set of Fatshotz on my '05 Electra Glide and they're great. I run about 10 discs per side but sometimes I run them without any discs at all.
Re-installing the discs can be tedious though. The manual gives the torque pattern for the bolts and says each bolt should be tightened to 15-25 inch pounds. Or, if you don't have a torque wrench, 1/4 turn once the bolt makes contact with the top disc.
25 in/lbs seems way too tight and 1/4 turn seems way too loose. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
when r + r ing the discs bind up
have broken off bolts in the pipe because of this
last time i did it i drilled all the discs out with next size up drill bit and install was smooth as butter
lube the **** out of it don't torque till all bolts are snug
I run kerker/supertrapps exhaust on all three bikes of mine
19 discs 2 into 1
I preloaded my discs on the screws and then started all the screws at the same time. Ran each one down a few turns at a time and never experienced any bind.
And a Torque wrench on diffuser discs? God I'm gettin' old! How about just snug 'em up? ( Haven't had one come loose yet)
tighten till it strips and back it off a quarter turn....
lol
Step 1.Cuss it all the way out.
Step 2. Tighten them up with a 1/2 impact.
Step 3. Dent fuel tank.
Step 4. Call customer ,tell them bike is ready.
Step 5. Cuss out customer and call them a liar.
Thanks gents!!! Yep... Plenty of anti-seize too. An old wrench/buddy of mine taught me the 1 finger tight, 2 finger tight, whole hand tight method years ago and two finger tight seems to be about 25 in/lbs.
One thing I found to make those long threads easier was to use an allen head on my Makita. Thread them in by hand then use the Makita to take up the slack.
