Loud tapping noise-top end once warmed up
After the bike warms up and only then, I get a fairly loud tap in the top end. Using a stethoscope I pinpoint it to the rear cylinder at the rocker box right at the intake rocker shaft. Should I be looking at the hydraulic portion of that lifter? I did replace the rocker shaft bushings a while back as I thought it was the cause-no dice. I thought maybe I would swith over to solid lifters but would like to diagnose this noise first. I will go ahead and check and adjust the pushrods again for laughs. I have checked oil flow and such with the exception of that lifter as I said.
Also, any thoughts on the best heat range and brand spark plug to use? I am running Autolite 66 in now and it seems to run a touch hot. Yes, I have the timing spot on.... I do seem to need to adjust the mixture on the S&S as it will "cough" from the carb at times. Usually after idling at a light or something for a bit it will cough through the carb- even stalling sometimes. It's a pain in the ***...
Thanks for any input!
