Working on a poor fuel consumption. My assumption at this point is that the SERT has been tuned properly. (se slip on’s, air filter). I have a lot of engine noise 2800 to 3000 RPM when accelerating. Could this be a loose cam chain and would that change the cam timing and would that cause poor fuel economy? Wow that’s a lot of questions. Any help would really be appreciated. Bike has 5000 miles and 28 mpg.

What's that old saying about assumptions? Sounds likea tuning problem to me; poor feul economy & pinging under load. Did you get a print-out of the sert tune? If so did the AFR look ok?
Thanks for the reply. The noise is not a pinging but rather a rattle type, metallic sound. Lessens with higher or lower rpm. The AFR printout is right on 14ish. Heavy fuel smell and very rich exhaust. The standard MAP was installed for bike setup.
Did the engine just recently develop the rattley noises? '14ish' AFR & 28 mpg, something sure as heck ain't right there. How's your plugs look? Have you talked to the shop that did the work?
