Default OK Flathead experts.

Still waiting to hear back from the seller regarding the sheet metal, frame and fork. Assuming they are OEM and engine and tranny are good, what do you think would be a fair price? He’s saying he wants around 17K which seems a little steep to me.

From the ad:
1939 Harley Davidson WL Replica, Titled as a 1960 H-D Sharp 45 Flathead

Far from OEM

If unit were real and a 39 not just a number 12 is the top of the mark

That is kind of where I'm at. I was thinking maybe 10. He got back to me and said, "As far as I know", in response to my question about the frame, sheet metal and fork. I think I'm going to ask him for engine, frame and belly numbers. I want a rider, not a collector bike. I am unable to tell by looking if the sheet metal and forks are OEM or not.
As always, thanks for your insight.

I see nothing to make me think that is a 1939 WL.

'39 would be a two bolt transmission, different than the later more common 3 bolt. Parts are far more rare for a '39.

Maybe the the frame is original plus motor and tranny are original but different years. But 1960 means likely a later G motor.

Overall, a serious bastard with way too much aftermarket crap all over it.

If it was a great strong runner and did everything is was supposed to do. $9k would be the maximum I would offer. $17 is outlandish for what it is, with likely questionable paperwork.

Keep in mind 1960 was three wheelers only for a 45, so a DMV worth a damn is going to know your two wheeler does not have her original paperwork/motor.

I would walk away, quickly, much better versions out there. Good luck.

I'm a little concerned about titling also. If it was titled in my home state I might bite at 10 but being it's in another state, I think I'll pass. Just because oregon will issue a title doesn't mean Arkansas will. I don't know why but I've got a bug up my *** for a WL. Not as a collector bike but as a rider. I just can't see putting a boatload of coin into buying one considering I more likely than not don't really have all that long left before I hit the oven anyway.
Thanks for taking the time.

For me a 45 is a bb king song - the 2 hours of ownership later - the thrill is gone

Nothing good on the Bay right now.

45 prices went through the roof in the last 5 years, too many guys want Knuckles and can't afford them, so here you are.

As always, find the best bike you can afford. Everything is expensive, bastards will take time and money to fix.

Not AMCA quality, but to get that bike to what I would consider presentably original, figure another $5k-$8k, and that is assuming the motor and transmission need only some maintenance.

Keep looking.

I'd love to have something I could haul to Wildwood and run on the beach.
