I was hoping someone could give me an idea on what a 38 flathead 80 would be worth. It isn't together but I have all of the original parts aside from a few cables. Engine has been stored inside so its in great condition no water inside or anything. I have zero experience with these classic bikes so I don't know if its worth closer to $1k or $10k. Any input would be appreciated.
I'll get to the photos eventually. Currently the bike is in my dad's garage and his panhead is ripped apart next to it so I don't even know what goes to what. I'll have to drag him out there and get some help. He shattered his knee after tearing his prized panhead down and considering he is almost 80 and knows he cant ride the panhead once its together he doesn't go into the garage much anymore. At least he can still ride the newer bike!
If it is a 80ci pre war flathead you can probably get as a basket case around the 20k price range I would think. I deal with the smaller 45ci and they bring in around 10k in that state. It might even be more depending on condition.
Being a prewar big twin that accepts a knucklehead engine, anyone with a knuckle engine or cases with a title will turn that bike into a very expensive bike .
the frame is $8-10K
front end, $6K easy
dash, speedo, tanks all very expensive stuff!
Transmission $3K
engine with a title $10k?
The fenders may have the butterfly tabs on the underside that straddle the narrow fender braces. Front fender probably $2K and the rear $3500.
Everything on that bike is knuckle money except the engine.
I paid $16K canadian for a 41UH in pieces pretty much and missing the speedo and that was a deal. I could put a knuckle engine in it and no one could dispute if it was original or not. Unfortunately its come to that these days because of the high value of these machines. Everything is soft right now because of the economy but not like a penny stock.
If you want $10K for it I'll send the money tonight.

I don't know where in Oregon you are but there's a shop out in Dundee that buys and sells parts and bikes of that vintage and older.
If you plan to put it together he probably has anything you might be missing,he's not cheap be he has it.
No doubt he'd be an interested buyer if you just want sell it all as is. http://www.jeffsamericanclassics.com/
