Default Oil psi light

Hey All,
Does anyone have a fix for why the oil
psi light comes on and than not?Oil pressure switch is good ( I’m pretty sure on that) and oil
is cycling in the tank, but the light comes on and then I’ll check the wiring for shorts but I don’t see any reason why it happening!
So if this has happened to you and you found out why please let me know.
Thanks.

Yes, would run fine for 15 miles and light comes on. This was a 08 Softail with 25k miles. I'd stop, wait a few minutes and could go 5 miles and came back on. We changed the oil pressure sensor, nada same thing. So mine was only discovered on takedown. The oil dipstick came undone and trapped in the reservoir tank. Sounds silly, because my dipstick was fine. We think it came from the factory and never caused a problem until positioned where it occluded flow. I replaced pump anyway, cams, and bearings as the chest was opened at that point. No damage, running fine 1 yr later.

Edit, sorry just now seeing flathead...

I have never had any luck with the oil pressure switch and light. I have tried original units and repop, either the light never comes on or the light never turns off. On would make me mental, I currently have mine wired to a repop unit that never turns the light on, oh well.

This is the current oil psi switch that “might “ be the issue. Does anyone know of a trouble free switch or how to cure this problem?

Remove the switch and remove the nut part from the body of the switch - caution - a small spring is inside - remove it - the tension of the spring is incorrect

when it’s removed the switch is free to ground and not a loaded spring keeping it from the ground - when it grounds the light goes off and no pressure it turns on

It’s a completer unit, can’t be taken apart, so can’t remove spring or anything to it.

John, you are saying just remove the spring completely and run the sending unit like that?

Interesting idea, does it work with repop or original only??
