Default 1948 Flatty

Hey all, new to the site. I've been searching for a new project and recently came across a 48'1200cc flathead. The bikes not for sale so I dont have to freak out about getting it from the guy. The motor isnt in the frame but I was told that it ran when it was removed. Everything is there, speedo, tins, wheels, all of it. My question is this: Is this a pretty sought after bike? Would it be possible to trade for a running bike? Part it out? I need some serious advice is what I'm getting at I suppose. I can have some pics by the end of next week. Any help is appreciated. Bill

Yes a big twin flathead is a desirable bike. If you got the original tins, speedo etc even more so. Interested in seeing some pics.

Any flathead is a sought after bike, and valuable, but it's a small group of folks who are willing to pay the money to keep these running. The 74" side valve found in the U models was built from 1937-1948 and there were 31,815 built during that decade.

There were a total of 80,505 side valve big twins built, and 152,224 of the 45" models, so finding that particular bike with all the pieces intact is going to be rare. To find one that is intact and running is even more rare.

And the way prices have gone the last 10 years, I'd bet you'd be better served to keep it together rather than part it out. Yes, you could work a trade for a running bike, just be sure you know exactly what you've got before you trade for something of lesser value. I watch Ebay and Craigslist and swap meets in hopes that I run into somebody that is selling something and they don't know what it's worth. I call it Easy Money...

Cool Indie, thats all very helpful info. Yeah, I've been watching ebay and craigslist to try and get an idea, but it's tuff. I have been talking to a couple of guys on here and also a resto shop out of Colorado, and they seem really interested. Also, a shop seems like a good place to pick up a trade to me. Anyway, thanks again, and as soon as I get the pics(looks like a week or so form now) I will get them on here so you can take a look. Thanks

Next weekend I should have the bike in my possession. Lots of pics to follow. We have to remain calm until then. At least I have to keep telling myself to.
